This menu contains examples programs written in script languages. Programs or scripts are directly executed (they may be pre-compiled by a run-time compiler, but that fact is hidden from a user/programmer).
Those scripting languages are really powerful, they mostly have predefined data structures and variable types like lists and hashes that make it faster and easier to write programs.
